Abstract:
Every 6 or 12 mo. blood samples were taken for 1-3 times from bulls of the following AI stations: RPN-Hannover, RPN-Buetzfleth, Georgsheil, Osnabruek, Lohfelden, Naumburg, Grebenstein, Giessen and Stoeckels. The partial correlations with the criteria of dairy performance are small and generally not significant. Only in group 1 could a relationship between the milk fat content and the GLDH [glutamate dehydrogenase]-activity be found, and in group 2 there was a correlation between milk fat content and FTI [thyroxin index]. Partial correlations to milk protein content could not be evaluated because of the small number of animals. The estimated coefficients of heritability, ranging from h2 = 0.14 to h2 = 0.43 indicate the genetic basis of some of the biochemical parameters investigated. For GLDH-activity no genetic additive variation could be found. It is possible that the IRI [immunoreactive insulin]-concentration and GR [glutathion reductase]-activity have some significance for future breeding because of the genetic correlations (rg = + 0.26-IRI-concentration: milk yield; rg = 0.19-IRI-concentration:milk fat content; rg = 0.20-GR-activity; milk fat content).
