Abstract:
Mortality of Plutella xylostella increased after adding the synergist piperonyl butoxide at a ratio of 10:1 and 5:1 to differently extracted neem seed kernel extracts (MeOH-NR, AZT-VR-K and MTB-H2O-VR). When 4th instar larvae were allowed to feed for several days of only 24 h on treated leaf disks, mortality significantly increased. An immediate effect of the extracts due to the efficacy of the synergist was not detectable, neither by changing the concentration of the extracts nor of the synergist. Using 4th instar larvae of Leptinotarsa decemlineata, a synergist to extract ratio of 10:1 significantly improved the effect of the extract (MTB/H2O-VR) when the insects fed on treated plants until pupation. A slight acceleration of the efficacy also was recorded. No improvement resulted from feeding larvae on treated plants for 24 h.
