Abstract
Corn [Zea mays cv. Badischer Landmais] seedlings were stressed by incubating the plants in polyethyleneglycol solutions for different time intervals. The effect of this stress treatment of turgor pressure and proline content of the roots was investigated. The loss of turgor is correlated with proline accumulation. The turgor loss apparently causes the metabolic perturbation which finally results in an increased proline yield of the stressed roots.
