Abstract
Among the isolates, virulence against the resistance genes Mla 6 and Mla 12 was frequent, against Mlg and Mla 7 + Mlk moderately so, and against Mlv infrequent. Pathotypes with joint virulence against Mlg + Mla 12 occurred less frequently in ascospores from culivars without the matching resistance genes, but they occurred in ascospores of cv. Aramir (with a matching resistance genotype) more frequently than expected. Complex pathotypes comprising virulence against Mlg + Mla 12 + Mla 7 + Mlk were extremely rare. Virulence spectra in ascospore populations were in general highly specific for the resistance genes of the cultivar on which the cleistothecia had been formed. This results in a high correlation between spectra detected in conidia and ascospore populations from the same cultivar. All isolates were virulent on winter barley cultivars. Virulence against Dura (with an unidentified resistance factor u1) and Birgit (Mlh) was, however, more frequent than against Doris (Wong-R-factor) and Vogelsanger Gold (Mla 6).
