Abstract

The T-matrix of a given coupled channel problem is without further approximations cast into the form of the first- and second-order DWBA methods on the basis of Feshbach's projection method. The optical potentials and the coupling interactions to be used in these methods are determined by a truncation of the channel space. The resulting expressions for the T-matrix are of a DWBA form even in strong coupling situations. Elastic and inelastic scattering to the single 2+ and the mutual 2+ excitations in 12C + 12C are discussed as a simple example.
