Abstract
The lipovitellin-phosvitin crystals in L. chalumnae, have according to a crystallographic study by EM, an orthorhombic lattice (a = 8.6 nm, b = 17.0 nm, c = 19.2 nm). These dimensions as well as selected crystal projections are almost identical with those in other bony fishes and amphibians. The hypothesis attributing a physiological significance to the architecture of these oocyte crystals is supported. A molecular interpretation of the EM based on results from studies on other species is presented.
