Abstract
Investigations in separated greenhouse areals (1.4m2) were carried out into the influence of 2nd larval instars of S. corollae F. on populations of the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum Harr. The predator:prey-relations were 1:10, 1:5 and 1:2.5, respectively. The closer the relationship, the more aphids were killed by predators; but there were great differences between results. An increased number of aphids/areal did not cause a greater feeding capacity of the syrphid larvae. The results of the trials are discussed, considering problems which may arise, in greenhouses from releasing predators of aphids for biological control.
