Abstract:
The concentrations of proline, glutamic acid NADH+H+ and NAD+ were determined in water-stressed and well-watered plants (P. vulgaris L.). The mass action ratio of the P5C[.DELTA.-pyrrolin-5-carboxylate]-reductase reaction was calculated with these values. Evidently, proline accumulation in water-stressed plants can hardly be the result of an enhanced rate of synthetic sequence glutamic acid .fwdarw. proline.
