Abstract
N fertilization increased the prolamin fraction and decreased markedly the lysine content. Low protein quality was noticed in all genotypes, except in ''Riso 1508'' where the feeding quality was improved due to its high lysine content. The superiority of ''Riso 1508'' as feed barley was ascertained over other tested genotypes as it exceeded them in lysine content of the endosperm as well as in the translocation of essential amino acids and polypeptides of low MW from roots to the spike. Extraction of grain protein and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for separation of the band protein fractions were performed. ''Riso 1508'' showed a reduced hordein fraction and increased albumin and globulin fractions, high storage of low MW amino acid and polypeptides during the grain filling period.
