The Strutinsky method for rotating nuclei has been used to calculate yrast lines in the mass range from A = 24–60. As a basis for the diagonalization of the cranked Hamiltonian the exact eigenstates of the cranked, anisotropic harmonic oscillator are used. Problems of the Strutinsky method specific to this particular mass region are discussed. The calculated yrast lines have been searched for spin isomers, i.e. cold, oblate configurations. The yrast lines of sd shell nuclei are discussed in connection with empirical fusion bands.
