Abstract
H. vulgare plants derived from anther callus showed broad divergence in morphological appearance, accompanied by broad variations infertility and mixoploidy in root tip meristems (ploidy chimeras). Ploidy determinations in such plants revealed the occurrence of various ploidy levels in successive leaves on the same plant. This ploidy instability was also detected in the 2 following generations of this population. A method to achieve ploidy-homogeneity in callus cultures derived from anther cultures is described.
