Abstract
Variety trials with 75 cucumber cultivars concerning the 2 powdery mildew pathogens E. cichoracearum and S. fuliginea revealed that all 12 glasshouse cultivars were highly susceptible. Out of 63 field cultivars 13 were resistant to Erysiphe but susceptible to Sphaerotheca. Only 8 cultivars were resistant against both species. The importance of these results for disease management, with special regard to the horizontal resistance of the cultivars ''Doplus'', ''Meresto'', ''Naf'' and ''1296'' against both fungal species, is discussed.
