Abstract
Density gradient centrifugation of total DNA of various parts of carrot [Daucus carota] plants and cultured carrot explants indicate the occurrence of several satellites besides a main band of DNA (1.691 g/ml). In explants cultured under aseptic conditions, a heavy satellite (1.721 g/ml) occurred that could not be detected in the DNA of the whole carrot plant. The results of chase experiments using cultured carrot explants indicate the occurrence of a metabolic turnover of DNA.
