Abstract
Leaves of C. persicum were colonized by B. cinerea after leaf tissues had become naturally senescent or were made senescent by the fungus. The juice of tolerant tissues as well as cell wall preparations of all plant parts contained substances which inhibited pectin methylesterase and polygalacturonase. The inhibitor content of different plant parts was as follows: young green leaves > old green leaves > senescent leaves > stems. There apparently is a correlation between the inhibitor content of Cyclamen leaves in different stages of development and their susceptibility of B. cinerea.
