Abstract
A model-computation was developed to assess the effectiveness of the rust hyperparasite E. caricis = Darluca filum in limiting the progress of leaf rust (Puccinia recondita) on wheat. The model is based on the development of wheat leaf area, its age dependent susceptibility, and on the biology of P. recondita and D. filum. The hyperparasite reduces the final severity of rust by 60-80% when pycnidia of D. filum occupy a 40-60% of the total rust pustule surface. There would probably be a greater reduction, if the hyperparasite covered a larger area of the rust pustules, and if it appeared earlier and uniformly during rust development. The program is written in FORTRAN IV.
