Abstract
A study was made on infected spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L. ''Firlbecks Union'') in field trials (1975, 1976). The number of colonies/cm2 decreased from the lower leaves to the upper leaves. The small number of colonies on the upper leaves, however, was partly compensated by an increase in area of these colonies. A high level of disease on the lower leaves facilitated the overall development of the epidemic.
