Abstract
Most of the IAA supplied to the nutrient medium of continuously illuminated carrot tissue culture systems is rapidly degraded (90% within 24 h) by the action of light. In the described culture medium supplemented with kinetin, a very short exposure of the explants to IAA apparently suffices to initiate an IAA synthesis in the explants capable of sustaining growth as usually observed in response to the presence of an IAA supplement to tissue culture nutrient media throughout the duration of the experiment. The IAA synthesized by the cultured explants was excreted to the nutrient medium.
