Abstract
The micropyles of 10 fish spp. [Salmo salar, S. trutta, S. trutta f. lactustris, S. gairdneri, Salvelinus alpinus, S. fontinalis, Coregonus fera, C. macrophthalmus, C. wartmanni and Esox lucius] were examined by the scanning electron microscope. The micropyles of 3 of these species are described for the 1st time. The micropyles are criterions for the determination of eggs. The micropyles were of 2 distinct types. Micropyles with flat micropyle-pit and long micropyle-canal and micropyles without micropyle-pit but only with microplyle-canal were found. The sides of the micropyle-canals often are reinforced by annular or helicoid thickenings. Pike eggs can be fertilized when their micropyles are clogged. Egg envelopes must also be penetrable for sperm at other places.
