Abstract
Studies on uredospore dispersal of H. vastatrix were conducted from Sept., 1972-Dec., 1974. Spore catches by volumetric spore traps between, above and outside a heavily infested coffee plot were recorded. Uredospores of the pathogen were continuously wind-borne. Although spore densities generally decreased with increasing height and distance, uredospores could be traced up to 1000 m above coffee plantations. Spore dispersal also occurred by rain splash. This vehicle is less important as rain occurs less frequently. The possibility of spore dispersal by insects, plant material and human agents was confirmed. Wind plays the most important role in releasing and dispersing uredospores of H. vastatrix.
