Abstract: 
Good reproducibility and sensitivity of the chitosan method allowed a quantitative determination of the fungal mass of Erysiphe cichoracearum. Based on a glucosamine content of 0.8% of fresh weight a fungal mass of 100-200 .mu.g/cm2 [Aster dumosus] leaf surface can be determined.
