Abstract
The effect of the juvenoids CGA 29''170 [aromatic alkenylether], ZR-777 [3,7,11-trimethyl-2,4-dodecadienoate] and its cylopropane analogue ZR-856 were tested on eggs of different ages and postembryonic instars of Tetranychus urticae Koch and its predator Phytoseiulus persimilis A. H. under laboratory conditions. All substances caused good ovicidal effects after direct application on fresh eggs and retarded the development of postembryonic stages or caused mortality. In experiments with ZR-865 death occurred primarily during early embryonic development and the larval-nymphal molt. Direct application of the juvenoids to adults of T. urticae caused up to 78% mortality after 6 days and reduced the number of eggs. Both tested juvenoids showed a negative effect on eggs and postembryonic stages of P. persimilis while the cyclopropane analogue ZR-856 showed no influence. A distinct, juvenilizing effect of the tested juvenoids on spider mites could not be demonstrated.
