Abstract:
The structure of the smooth tentacles in L. conchilega Pallas was studied by EM. The monolayered tentacle epithelium was covered by a zonated cuticle which bore a granular border. Specialized cells of the epithelium comprised secretory cells and 3 types of sensory cell (1 mechanoreceptor and 2 chemoreceptors). The kinocilia of the ciliated grooves possessed 2 types of rootlets, 1 of which connected the basal bodies of neighboring cilia. Below the epithelium were located layers of circular and longitudinal muscles. The wall of the tentacle cavity was composed of a coelothelium which bore only few cilia. The coelomic fluid contained coelomocytes (lymphocytes).
