Abstract

Hartree-Fock calculations using the Skyrme-force were performed for the system 32 S<->16o+16o with a constraint on the center of mass distance. The resulting energy curve yields the right deformation of the ground state of 32S as well as the correct height for the interaction barrier. It also exhibits a second minimum. A simple interpretation for this is presented in terms of the single particle level scheme. The implication of these results for experimentally observed cross sections are discussed.
