Abstract
The effects of homofenazine (3 mg), chlordiazepoxide (10 mg), meprobamate (400 ing), fluphenazine (1 mg) on performance in a battery of psychological tests (achievement tests and questionnaires) were examined in a group of 12 healthy male students with high scores in neuroticism in the sense of Eysenck. Psychic effects of the various drugs differed bearing on the kind of the drug and on the tests. Meprobamate showed no impairment in any achievement test. Some test results even showed enhancement, whereas chlordiazepoxyde showed impairment in three tests, fluophena-zine and homofenazine in one test. Self reports showed no sign of fatigue in any drug. Quite the contrary under the influence of all drugs subjects reported signs of increased activation. Above this, chlordiazepoxyde, meprobamate and homofenazine reduced feelings of stress and anxiety.
