Abstract
Recent experimental data of electron capture into He+(4l) states from SIGMA and PI aligned Na*(3p) orbitals are interpreted. Calculations of the overlap integral of the initial Na*(3p) and the final He+(4l) wavefunctions in momentum space reproduce the velocity dependence of the measured cross sections. This result suggests that velocity matching might play an important role in the electron capture process.
