Abstract

Recent collision experiments are reviewed in which one-electron transfer between laser excited target atoms and (highly charged) keV-ions has been studied. Especially results showing a dependence of the charge exchange on the initial target orbital alignment are discussed. The question to what extent simple intuitive physical pictures such as velocity matching can explain the experimental findings is addressed.
