Recent results on the recombination of atomic ions with free electrons in the presence of external electromagnetic fields are reported. While dielectronic recombination via high Rydberg states is known to be influenced by external electric fields for already more than two decades its sensitivity to additional crossed magnetic fields has only been demonstrated recently. This novel effect is reported here as well as the discovery of a magnetic field dependence of the yet unexplained recombination rate enhancement at low energies.
