The study investigates the influence of tillage-dependent soil properties on the behaviour of different pollutants, viz., heavy metals (Cd, Cu and Zn) and organics (e.g. polychlorinated biphenyls and 2,4-dichlorophenol). The Eutric Cambisols and Luvisols were long-term tilled by: conventional ploughing, reduced tillage and no-tillage. Sorption rates for Cd showed strong interaction with the investigated soils. Tabulated results are presented showing that long-term application of different tillage systems resulted in a specific stratification and accumulation patterns of heavy metal concentrations in the soil. Both soils showed significantly higher ΣPCB concentrations for the no-tillage treatment, whereas the level of PCB contamination was site-specific.
