Abstract

The method described consists of methanol extraction, centrifugation and solid phase extraction on RP-18 material. It yields samples suitable for CH3CN-aqueous KH2PO4 gradient elution on a high performance 25-cm RP-18 column. Peaks of UV-absorbing material were analysed at 220 nm for identification by comparing retention times of unknown peaks with standards. The 7 triazines determined (desisopropylatrazine, desethylatrazine, simazine, atrazine, propazine, sebuthylazine and terbuthylazine) were simultaneously analysed and appeared in that order between 4 and 14.7 min after injection. Purified soil samples with as little as 5-30 ppb of each of the triazines could be analysed within 20 min. This is a simple, rapid and very sensitive method, equal and in some respects superior to GLC-analysis with NP-detection. It is also applicable to heat-labile samples. Some specimen analyses from sandy soils in Hessen are presented.
