Abstract
Phospholipids are important constituents of membranes and lipoproteines. There are several nutritive factors which influence phospholipids in membranes and tissues. There are factors influencing the fatty acid composition of phospholipids and others influencing the phospholipid parttern of membranes and tissues. In this respect, the ratio between phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine is of particular significance. The second part of this paper deals with the effects of phospholipids as additives or natural ingredients of foods on animal metabolism. In this respect, podtential effects of phospholipids on plasma cholesterol concentrations, fat digestibility in young animals and benefical effects against tumor genesis are discussed.
