Abstract

Liquid chromatography (LC) comprises all chromatographic techniques which employ a liquid mobile phase. In the past, just high-performance (column) liquid chromatography (HPLC) was coupled to mass spectrometry (MS) and the term LC-MS was safely used as a synonym for HPLC-MS. But this situation has changed. This article describes the features and use of high performance thin-layer chromatography (TLC/HPTLC) coupled to MS. It addresses desorption and elution-based techniques and offline and on-line approaches in the process of analysis.
