Abstract

Fals.o.chro.bac'trum. L. masc. adj. falsus, false; N.L. neut. n. Ochrobactrum, a bacterial generic name; N.L. neut. n. Falsochrobactrum, false Ochrobactrum.

Proteobacteria / Alphaproteobacteria / Rhizobiales / Brucellaceae / Falsochrobactrum

Cells are motile or nonmotile, non-spore-forming rods (approx. 2 μm in length and 1 μm in width). Cells stain Gram-negative, oxidase-positive, showing an oxidative metabolism. The polar lipid profile consists of the major compounds diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, and unidentified aminolipids and unidentified phospholipids. The quinone system consists mainly of ubiquinone Q-10. The fatty acid profile is composed of high amounts of C18:1 ω7c and moderate amounts of C18:0 and C19:0 cyclo ω8c. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, most closely related to the genera Paenochrobactrum, Pseudochrobactrum, Ochrobactrum, and Brucella. Member of the family Brucellaceae.

DNA G + C content (mol%): approx. 50.7–56.9 (Genome sequence).

Type species: Falsochrobactrum ovis Kämpfer et al. 2013VP.
