Co.pro.ther.mo.bac.te.ra'les. N.L. masc. n. Coprothermobacter type genus of the order; -ales ending to denote an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Coprothermobacterales the order of the genus Coprothermobacter.

Coprothermobacterota / Coprothermobacteria / Coprothermobacterales

The order Coprothermobacterales belonging to the phylum Coprothermobacterota constitutes one of the primary lines of descent in the bacterial domain. The order is currently represented by a single family and genus. Nonmotile rods. Stains Gram-negative. Non-spore-forming. Strictly anaerobic, thermophilic. Chemoorganotrophs. Proteolytic fermenters that produce acetic acid, H2, and CO2 as the main end products. Able to reduce thiosulfate but not sulfate to sulfide.

Type genus: Coprothermobacter Rainey and Stackebrandt 1993, 858VP.
