Abstract

Co.pro.ther.mo.bac.te.ro'ta. N.L. masc. n. Coprothermobacter type genus of the type order of the phylum; -ota ending to denote the phylum; N.L. neut. pl. n. Coprothermobacterota, the phylum of the class Coprothermobacteria.

Coprothermobacterota

This phylum constitutes one of the primary lines of descent in the bacterial domain, a position strongly supported by phylogenomic analysis. The phylum is currently represented by a single class, order, family, and genus. Nonmotile rods. Stains Gram-negative. Non-spore-forming. Obligately anaerobic, thermophilic, and proteolytic bacteria. Chemoorganotrophs. Acetic acid, H2, and CO2 are the main fermentation end products. Able to reduce thiosulfate but not sulfate to sulfide.

Type class: Coprothermobacteria Pavan, Pavan, Glaeser, Etchebehere, Kämpfer, Pettinari and López 2018, 1631.
