This class is currently represented by a single order, family, and genus. Nonmotile rods. Stains Gram-negative. Non-spore-forming. Strictly anaerobic, thermophilic. Chemoorganotrophs. Proteolytic fermenters that produce acetic acid, H2, and CO2 as the main end products. Able to reduce thiosulfate but not sulfate to sulfide.
