Abstract:
The 'MoHo Pig' project aims to establish decentralized, practical on-farm slaughter of pigs. It involves testing a fully mobile slaughter unit for fattening pigs, surpassing previous direct marketing standards and envisioning marketing through the food retail trade. To enable animal welfare-friendly pig slaughter under high hygiene standards, innovative technologies will be designed, tested, and optimized. Scientific studies will gather and compare stress parameters to identify and improve potential effects on animal welfare. Economic aspects will also be captured and evaluated. Additionally, a socio-scientific analysis will be conducted to capture consumer perception and media discourse, aiming to develop suitable communication channels. The project aims for knowledge transfer in professional circles to widely establish the new procedure.
