With the release of the guidelines VDI 4252 part 2 and VDI 4253 part 2 there was a necessity to check the random errors the methods are afflicted with. The results presented here enable the user of these guidelines to judge the efficiency as well as the weak points of the method. The user is given advice, how to improve and check the significance of his own results and weather the sampling works correctly. We point out the extreme importance of an external quality assurance for the sampling and the detection of moulds.
