Abstract:
Mesoporous thin films of cerium oxide with spherical pores and crystalline pore walls were prepared using evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA), taking advantage of a novel type of block copolymer. The films were characterized by various techniques, in particular transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), wide-angle x-ray scattering (WAXS) and krypton/nitrogen sorption. The evaluation of the SAXS data allowed for a quantification of the pore dimension perpendicular to the film and revealed a significant degree of deformation of the pores during calcination. Detailed WAXS studies as a function of the temperature showed that the crystallite size can be finely tuned as a function of the heat treatment.
