Abstract
We tested the extension of the internal/external frame of reference model by relating math, German, and (as a foreign language) English achievement to math, German, and English self-concepts. 227 students from German secondary schools reported their last grades. Self-concepts were assessed without explicitly focusing on special frames of reference. While the original I/E model was supported for math and German, the predictions of the extended version concerning the paths from English achievement and on English self-concept failed to reach clear support. It is recommended to specify the conditions, which make two different domains to be chosen for the dimensional comparison process.
