Abstract
In 6 experimental yr in which precipitation was mostly above average, brackish water sprinkling caused a marked increase in sorbed Na and Mg contents as well as salt concentration of lightly loamed sandy soil from spring to autumn, whereas Ca and K contents were only little influenced. In 2 experimental yr, additional testing was done on short-term alterations due to split brackish water application. Na, Mg contents and salt concentration rose even more, this may be the main cause for the yield depressions which occurred at certain times. Plant-available Mg sometimes reached harmful values.
