Abstract
The present study investigated the effect of lifibrol treatment (5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg, respectively) on bile flow and bile composition in pigs. Lifibrol treatment reduced the rate of cholesterol secretion and cholesterol concentration as well as the lithogenic index of bile. The effect of lifibrol on these parameters was dose dependent. In contrast, bile flow, secretion rate and concentration of phospholipids and bile acids were not influenced by lifibrol treatment. The results indicate that lifibrol might be a useful agent in prevention gallstone formation.
